mayor steve blackTimmins Mayor Steve Black relayed the message from Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne’s speech at last week’s Good Roads Conference.

In it, the Premier admits it was a mistake to pull the funding for the Connecting Link funds, forcing the municipalities to front the bill.

“(The province) is going to do something to address it in the near future, not sure when that’s going to be yet,” he said, “I don’t think it will be reinstatement of the program as it was before but hopefully, we get some additional funds in Northern Ontario to help with those Connecting Link highways.”

He says it’s an issue all around the province, and talked about for a number of years.

“The message has finally hit home,” added Black.

The Connecting Link stretches from Kamiskotia Road to the train tracks in Porcupine, measuring around 21km.
