Timmins Safe In Canada Wide Future Shop Closure

Effective immediately as of Saturday (March 28th) Morning, all Future Shop stores in Canada will be closed.

In a press release sent out by Best Buy Saturday Morning, the cooperation explained:

“To strengthen its position as Canada’s leading provider of consumer electronics products, services and solutions, Best Buy Canada, a subsidiary of Best Buy Co., Inc. BBY, +0.21% – which owns and operates both Best Buy and Future Shop stores – today announced it is consolidating the Future Shop and Best Buy stores and websites under the Best Buy brand and unveiled an ambitious plan to build a leading multi-channel customer experience. “

66 Future Shops Stores in Canada will be shut down for good and the other 65 converted into Best Buys. Tweets and news releases of the 500 full time and 1000 part time job cuts had many people wondering if this was an early April fools joke.

As for the Timmins location, it will be converted into a Best Buy. According to Best Buy’s FAQ on it’s website:

How do I know if a store near me is closed or if it will be reopening soon?

• Many stores are expected to re-open on April 4th, check the store locator for details about the store nearest you.
• In the meantime, signage has been displayed on store windows indicating the reopen date for that location.
