timmins rockThe Timmins Rock will be set to “Rock the Mac” this fall.

Officials released the new team name and logo Friday afternoon.

President Scott Marshall says former Timmins Golden Bears player-turned board member Luc Lamarche reached out to former teammate and graphic artist Paul Ainsworth.

Ainsworth is a former Timmins resident, and very well known for his work transforming WWE pro wrestling stars into animated superheroes.

After exchanging emails and drawing concepts, the logo as decided upon.

“(Deciding the team name) in itself was a process,” Marshall said, “Trying to come up with a name that the youth would identify with.”

He says the whole process took around a month to go through.

Marshall says there are about 117 season ticket holders to date.  The season ticket drive will be at the Sportsman Show at the end of the month.

One fan of the Timmins’ return to the league is the “Timmins Tornado” himself, Steve Sullivan.

Sullivan—currently the Player Development Coach with the Arizona Coyotes—will be a Senior Advisor.  Marshall says the board is in contact with Sullivan on a weekly basis.

It’s only the beginning.

“It’s like anything else, (the team name) will take a while to grow,” he said, “But I think by the time the puck drops on the season home opener here at the Mac, I think people will be pretty excited.”

The Timmins Rock play in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.  Jerseys will be released later this summer.
