angusTimmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus is warning residents of a new phone scam happening in this region.

People are getting phone calls from someone stating that income tax money is owing and you must pay immediately.

Angus says this is a fraudulent phone call and you should call police right away.

“People are being threatened that they will have their pay garnished unless they pay up. Don’t do anything. Never give financial information over the phone.”

Angus says police services are experts at tracking down these scammers.

“You should call the Anti-Fraud centre. Police deal with this all the time and need to know when something is happening that is not legit.”

You are urged to call 1-888-495-8501, the Anti-fraud center, right away if you receive a phone call that you think might be suspicious.
