SCI_MNR_logo_bronzeThe Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry were out in full force this long weekend.

The MNRF reports over 1,000 interactions with campers and anglers in the Timmins and Gogama areas alone.

The MNRF’s Heather Pridham says conservation officers responded to a number of littering complaints.  She says keeping a clean campsite is key, especially when it comes to keeping the bears away.

Overall, a number of charges were handed out, including:

  • Fishing without a licence
  • fishing with an extra line,
  • possessing skinless fish,
  • over limit of walleye,
  • open liquor,
  • no helmets on ATV’s,
  • disobeying notices pertaining to atving in restricted areas
  • trespassing
  • unattended camp fire

Pridham says in some instances, these charges resulted in seizures of illegally caught fish.

There were also warnings handed out for fishing without licence on person and no registration or insurance on person for ATV’s.

She says when fishing, always keep your license on you.
