Need proof Timmins is a world leader in mining? India’s here to learn as much as they can during the Mining Expo.

India’s Consulate General, Akhilesh Mishra,  says India’s mining methods are outdated while our region is on the cutting edge in mining technology and safety.

“All the sectors is which Ontario is a world leader, happen to be where India has a great deficit.  The Canadian and Indian mining sectors compliment each other very well.”

He says India’s deepest mine’s don’t even come close to Timmins’ and is hoping to forge a long partnership with the region.

“I’ve been to Timmins and Sudbury a couple of times and India still has a lot learn from this region. The current state of mining in India is below potential.  Our sector is largely unexplored”

“The Canadian way of mining is a good way.  It’s a lot greener than my last visits to the mine sites and the reclamation projects. The right match making is critical and Canada and India math well.

The Consulate General is also giving key note addresses to the mining expo dignitaries.

“We are very honoured that Consul General Mishra has chosen to take some time from his Ontario – India Mining Exchange Forum schedule to address the Northern College community,” says Fred Gibbons, President of Northern College. “New developments in trade relations between Canada and India have the potential to create fruitful new opportunities for local businesses and industry. We are excited to learn more about what this could mean for the future of northeastern Ontario.”

The Ontario – India Mining Exchange Forum, and Consul General Mishra’s visit to northern Ontario, was first planned following Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi’s visit to Canada in mid-April of this year. During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Stephen Harper signed several new agreements aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.
