Coordinator of the Timmins Local Immigration Partnership(TLIP), Tom baby thinks so.

The TLIP is holding a one-day symposium tomorrow at the Days Inn, Baby says it was an open registration to the public and the maximum people signed up.

“The aim of the symposium is to raise the profile of immigration in Northern Ontario because of upcoming skilled worker shortages and outgoing youth movements.  We’re trying to say immigration can be a solution to these problems.”

Baby says other partners, like the Timmins Economic Development Corporation is also a key cog in attracting immigrants to the city.  He says this a way for the public to get involved and eventually build a more welcoming community.

He also believes immigration is on the rise in the region with more and more people coming to work in the mining sectors or temporary workers, and new post secondary students.

Presentations from the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), The Ministry of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade (MCIIT), and Skills International on trends, best practices, and planning immigration.
