parliamentThe final session of Parliament before the fall election wrapped up last week, one full of yet more scandals.

Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus says the Conservatives seem to have lost touch with Canadians, and plans to spend the summer talking with people to get their views.

“I think Canadians are fed up with the nastiness, the closed-mindedness of the Harper government,” he said, “This is a man who said he was going to clean up Ottawa.  We see them defending the Senate, we see them attacking their enemies, shutting down dissent.”

“That’s not how our Parliament is supposed to work.”

He adds Prime Minister Stephen Harper “never showed up in the house,” and that he is glad this latest session is over.

Angus says what was really clear was how “toxic and degraded our democracy has become.”

“We need to go back to the Canadian people, and change things up,” he says.

This fall election, Angus adds, will be crucial for Canada, as he feels from most people he’s talked to, the overall vibe is one of wanting change.

“They’re tired of the negativity that’s in Ottawa.”
