Timmins_Police_Service_logo_updYou might be surprised by this, but the number of reported break and enter cases have been trending downward.

Timmins Police Corporate Communications Coordinator Kate Cantin says social media plays a big part in the perception that numbers have been going up.

So far this year, there have been around 143 reports.

In 2013, 190 reports and in 2014, 157 reports.

(Stats are from January-July for all three years.)

On a full year-to-year basis, the numbers still show a downward trend, with a slight increase from 2010-2011.

  • 2010: 363
  • 2011: 366
  • 2012: 295
  • 2013: 240
  • 2014: 193

When it comes to vehicle thefts, there wasn’t a concrete number, as the police have them together statistically with other thefts.  She does say that we see an increase during the summer months, and this year has been no exception.

Nonetheless, it continues to be an issue in the city, so be sure to take the necessary precautions available to you.

Keep your valuables locked up, double and triple-check your home’s access points and make sure they’re locked, and if you need to report an incident, call 911 or the Timmins Police at 705-264-1201.
