river photoTrail enthusiasts have a new area to explore near Timmins.

The Friends of the Grassy River have named a 1,500 metre stretch south of the city in the memory of their former Chair Grant Tunnicliffe.

Aptly called “Grant’s Way,” it is a beautiful area along the Grassy River, complete with hills, bush and sits along side the riverbanks, with two new open spots to see the river rush through.

Current Chair Larry Robichaud says it’s a year-round location.

“It’s beautiful in the summer time, but even more so in the winter time…with the ice formations,” he said.

“It’s not necessarily always open for access because the road might not be open, but because of the forestry operations now, we do have access in the winter time also.”

Robichaud admits there was some concern over the site, but now the group is following in his tracks and keeping it to share with the public.

He says they had the trail finished last November.

Grant’s son Jon was in attendance, and says he would have been happy to see the support.  Jon says he’s been to the area before, and that it’s a “very special area.”

The main entrance sign is on Musgrove Road, located just over 11km south of Dalton Road.
