raptors1A nesting project is hitting new heights near Timmins.

These are for raptors (not the Jurassic Park ones), who tend to build nests on places like old buildings and hydro poles.

The project is headed by Kidd Operations, in partnership with R. Ross Beattie and Highline Power.

Kidd Environmental Coordinator Corey McLister says it was great getting the students to help them out by building the nesting platforms, and give students the experience of giving back to the community.

Teacher Tim Brooks says this wasn’t a class project, and still, the students came to help out during lunch hours.

This has been a six-year plan, and students started building about three years ago.

The raptor birds tend to build their nests around April or May, so these platforms won’t likely be used until then.

One pole is up near Nighthawk Lake, while two others will go up in the near future.
