YMCA

The YMCA is teaming up with the city to better understand it’s youngest residents.

The organization recently held a youth forum to find out what’s missing for people between 12 and 20 years -old.  YMCA General Manager, Shannon Costello says the teenagers touched on a number of topics like better use of park space, more shopping options, more wider known music acts, and improving on our tourist attractions.

Mayor Steve Black attended the forum and says the biggest surprise came when the youth started the discussion on mental health programs for people their age.  Black says he was floored the subject came up but is lad it did.  He says the the more we promote how and where to get help, the more people we can save.

Among the positive aspects of Timmins discussed in the forum include the amount of parks, trails, camping and nice people.

Ward 5 Councillor, Rick Dubeau says, as a member of the Hollinger Advisory Committee, he’d like to invite them to bring ideas forward to use the land once the Hollinger project is complete.
