canadiantire3A man who set off an over 18-hour stand off at Timmins’ Canadian Tire store this past June has learned his fate.

26-year old Harold Nakogee will serve 10-and-a-half months in jail, and two years of probation.

Assistant Crown Attorney Michel Labelle says Nakogee pleaded guilty to a number of “property offenses.”

Nakogee broke into multiple buildings in the West end, and Labelle says the man committed these crimes to fuel his drug habit.

Labelle adds Nakogee had no criminal record beforehand, and the Judge told Nakogee he’s lucky it wasn’t a longer sentence.

Labelle laid out what happened on June 17th, which was heard in court.

The stand off not only embroidered an entire community in fear and closed highways, but the story got national attention.

Nakogee was also credited for the last three months already served.
