Employment and development within northern aboriginal communities is a top priority for Noront Resources.

With mining rights to 65% of the Ring of Fire, they introduced training programs and job mentorship to help young people in the communities to be prepared to work in a structured environment.

The provincial government’s one billion dollar pledge will provide the backbone infrastructure for roads and power in the James Bay area and surrounding communities and hopefully a matched pledge from the federal government will contribute even more.

The Timmins Chamber of Commerce’s Presidents’ Series welcomed Glenn Nolan, VP of Aboriginal Affairs for Noront, who says, “Development, in general, will have a positive impact,” and “the benefits of the communities for having well-paid jobs, professional development opportunities and community infrastructure through this wealth creation is going to be tremendous.”

The Ring of Fire is located in the James Bay Lowlands of Northern Ontario.
