budgetShoppers in the west end know the issue all too well, a lack of a sidewalk between the Timmins Square and Walmart.

That problem amplifies in the winter time, when people have to either trek through snow or wait for the bus but council wants to fix that.

Multiple councilors and Mayor Steve Black had this item on their list of things to do in 2016, a project that is estimated at around $600,000.

For this, there are a number of options on the table, from how long the construction will take, to the type of sidewalk the city would install.

Councilor Andre Grzela was one of those councilors looking at this project, and suggests doing it in two phases to help offset some 2016 costs and put off some of the project to 2017.

All these options are being looked at in reports by city staff.

Walmart opened it’s doors in it’s current location in January 2005, so it’s been more than 10 years people haven’t had a safe walking trek down Riverside.
