cicconeLocal musician Adrianna Ciccone is adding Canadian Folk Music Solo Instrumental Artist of the year to her resume.

The award ceremony was held in Edmonton, Alberta, Sunday and Ciccone won the award for her debut album Back to Winter. Ciccone says it’s the cherry on top for this exciting week.

“It was a huge surprise and it’s an honour just to be nominated. I watched it online and called my parents as the announced it. I was able to be there without really being there.”

She also hosting a concert at O’Gorman High School, Friday with two other musicians from the United States.

“It’s always so wonderful to comeback to Timmins.  I get to bring up to of my good friends to join me for the album release concert at 7pm Friday.  We’ll play songs from the album and new stuff as well.”

“The CD is an accumulation of my 20 years of playing music.  I still play a lot of Ottawa Valley and French Canadian music on the fiddle but i spent three years at the Berkley College of Music and got to play a lot of American Old Time and explore other genres.”

Ciccone says the album took four days to record last January but the content has been percolating for over 10 years.

“It took ten years but I’m glad I waited because I got to meet a lot of people who played on the album.”

Tickets are still on sale for Friday night’s concert, and
