goldcorp kidsportEvery year, Goldcorp employees are encouraged to participate in an annual step challenge.

The challenge, put on by GCC, runs from May to September and provides many great resources for participants from nutrition and sleep information to managing stress. The online tracking system also allows Goldcorp employees to garnish a little bit of friendly competition between all Goldcorp sites and companies from around the world.

This year’s winner from PGM was Red Hot Chili Steppers averaging 21,622 steps each per day. Throughout the competition they walked/ran/biked their way to a total of 6,001 miles.  They also placed 2nd throughout all of Goldcorp’s operations world-wide. Winning team members include team captain Paige Pronovost, Lindsay Harvey, Brenda Ferrari, Mike Barker, Adam Dreihaar, Carol Theriault and Pete Lachance.

To add to bragging rights, Goldcorp committed to making a donation to the organization of their choice. After being matched both regionally and locally at PGM, the winning team decided to donate $10,000 to KidSport Timmins.

“We are committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle to our employees and our community.  The decision made by the Red Hot Chili Steppers to donate to Kidsport is proof of that commitment.” Bryan Neeley, Sustainability Manager stated.

Bryan also added “The skills learned by children when participating in sports is invaluable. We are pleased to be able to provide this opportunity to a few more children in the area”.

Sports For Kids/Kidsport Timmins is starting it’s 2016 season.  They ask the public and businesses to consider SportsFor Kids when deciding their 2016 donations as they are a registered charity. In 2015, Kidsport helped 197 children with the $54, 850.00 received locally which helped children with grants to cover registration fees and buy equipment. Without the funding received by these generous donations, many area children would not be able to participate in sports.
