There’s a catch though.  President of the Timmins Snowmobile Club, Raymond Corbeil says they’re only open with limited availability. Thanks to cold weather, snow, and volunteers, some snowmobile trails are open in the area.

“There could be some rougher spots, it may not be as flat as we want it to be but it’s not dangerous.”

“Some thought they weren’t quite ready but we decided to open the anyway.  Our standards are quite high, that’s why they’re open.”

Corbeil says groomers are starting to work on a more consistent basis with the hope of having all the trails open soon.

“Some areas, specifically Gogama, have been having difficulties.  There’s some 20km of trails closed by fallen trees and heavy snow on top.  It’s costing a bundle to open up so we’re trying to find funds, which we don’t have, to open up those trails.”

The Ontario Federation of Snomobile Clubs (OFCS)  says all snowmobiles displaying a valid Snowmobile Trail Permit in the proper location now have access to a system of OFSC Prescribed snowmobile trails.

Corbeil is warning, however to keep clear from lakes and rivers as some have not completely frozen over yet.
