The Core Services review is yielding it’s head again during city council budget meetings.

When the review was handed out to council on Oct, 26th, the biggest area in terms of savings was the Golden Manor at around $2.5 million.  The KPMG report suggested the Manor be turned into a not-for-profit organization.

Councillor Rick Dubeau had a presentation of his own supporting this but was quickly voted down by the remainder of council.  In the report Dubeau outlined the Cores Service’s review suggestion and how the city could make an extra $500,000 in property taxes. Dubeau says the province should be taking on the responsibility of health care but like the Highways, they’ve been downloaded to municipalities.

Although no official vote was taken, council gave a consensus vote to keep the status quo with an official vote coming during next Monday’s council meeting.

Mayor Steve Black also said the $500,000 ask from the Manor is not sustainable year-to-year.
