attawapiskat_logoFor the past week, all eyes and ears in Canada have been on the ongoing saga in Attawapiskat.

Over the past week, officials have had to break up two suicide pacts involving multiple youth in the remote James Bay community.

While most away from the area can’t comprehend just how bad living conditions are along the coast, social media can be a great resource for hearing their pleas 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Attawapiskat Grand Chief Bruce Shisheesh has been quite active on Twitter throughout the last number of days, providing updates from the area from how they’re keeping youth entertained to the multiple trips made by ministers.

And politicians of all stripes are jumping on the opportunity to facilitate change, including Timmins-James Bay MP—and NDP Indigineous Affairs Critic—Charlie Angus.

But despite some efforts, there is still plenty of worry among the communities.

Follow along the Tweets of Shisheesh (@BruceShisheesh), it’s worth the read to learn about the crisis from their point of view.
