It may be scaled back but the 3rd annual Timmins Sports Heritage Hall of Fame is still promising to be a special event.

Only 12 inductees are being enshrined in the Timmins Sports Heritage Hall of Fame this year.

Chairman, Wayne Bozzer says they’ve spent two years playing catch up by inducting a massive amount of people. He says the local hall of fame is at least 30 to 40 years behind other northern halls of fame so this is the first year they can create a more intimate setting.

“Some people are coming from far away and we’ll be in the auditorium this year, not the arena. There’s construction going on so we’ll have less room for people.”

Bozzer is also looking to highlight the fact you don’t have to have been a professional athlete to be inducted.

“We were very conscious of that early on and we want to show the community you don’t have to be an NHLer or anything like that and it’s gone very well.”

He says the reception from organizations and the community has been outstanding going into its third year of inductions.

“Seeing the emotion of the people getting their awards from the mayor is just amazing.  Just about everybody will be attending so the support has been there.”

Bozzer adds there will a few posthumous inductions as well.
