The Timmins Police Service responded to a call for service regarding an incident alleging an attempted abduction of a 3 year old child had taken place on June 13th.

The child was attending an event at a local charitable center when she was allegedly grabbed by the suspect but managed to eventually break free of the suspect’s grasp without injury.

Timmins Police officers responded to the scene and began their investigation with the assistance of the Criminal Investigations Division of the Timmins Police Service.

As a result of the ensuing investigation, Sauman LAM, 49, a female non-resident of the area was arrested by the Timmins Police Service on June 16th.

She has been held in custody on charges of one count of Attempted Abduction contrary to section 280(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada and two counts of Assault contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Officials from Immigration Canada are assisting the Timmins Police Service with certain aspects of this investigation.

The Timmins Police Service believe this is an isolated incident.

The accused is in custody awaiting a bail hearing at Provincial Court in Timmins slated for this afternoon to answer to the charges laid against her.
