More testing coming to Hollinger Park

The city will be looking into the health risks created by metal levels in the soil at Hollinger Park.

They’ll be spending just over $45,000 (including taxes) to have the assessment done, looking at what particular areas need to have soil removed or needs more of a cap to return it to acceptable levels.

Results in a previous report prompted the City to undertake a thorough sampling program at the park in 2015. After receiving the results of the 2015 soil sampling survey in May 2016, it indicated there are elevated metals (including antimony, arsenic, and lead) contained within the soil.

Despite all this, the park remains open to residents.  Mayor Steve Black says throughout the process, not one qualified person has told him to shut the park down and if they did, it would be shut down already.

Officials are hoping to start the assessment with AMEC Foster Wheeler by the fall.
