The Timmins Police Service – Traffic Section is in the midst of completing its investigation into a collision involving a commercial motor vehicle and a pedestrian which occurred on June 21st on Algonquin Blvd West in Timmins.

The Timmins Police Service is thankful to those persons who came forward with their information in regards to this event to assist officers with their investigation. The injured pedestrian remains in a Sudbury area hospital with serious injuries stemming from the collision.

The commercial motor vehicle involved in the collision was a tractor trailer unit with an overdimensional float trailer, loaded with a excavator.

It has been determined that the operator of the tractor trailer unit was in possession of the appropriate permit to allow the driver to proceed as he was within all applicable limitations of that permit in terms of total width of load, time of day, and route taken.

It has been further determined that, at the time of the collision with the pedestrian, the driver of the unit was proceeding west on Algonquin Blvd West within the posted speed limit and within the statutory stipulations of the Highway Traffic Act.

It has also been determined that the pedestrian entered the travel portion of the curb lane of Algonquin Blvd without the benefit of a cross walk and was struck by the track portion of the excavator.

The vehicle was subjected to a thorough inspection by the Timmins Police Service under the scrutiny of MTO inspectors and it has been deemed to be fit for roadway operation.
