A 40-year old Timmins woman is facing impaired driving charges, a 28-year old is being charged for a recent collision and a 23-year old woman has been arrested for several vehicle thefts.

VEHICLE THEFTS

The Timmins Police Service has completed its investigation into an incident where a suspect was rummaging through parked vehicles on 2 separate occasions.

The Timmins Police Services responded to an incident on Sunday, July 31st where a woman was observed rummaging through unlocked parked cars on First Avenue in Timmins and making off with personal items found in the vehicles.

It is alleged that close to $20.00 in cash, a cellular device, and cigarettes with a total value of
approximately $200 was taken from one vehicle.

The Timmins Police located the suspect and made an arrest.

The Timmins Police have charged Marie TIPPENESKUM, 23, of Timmins with

  • One count of Theft from Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • One count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

TIPPENESKUM was released from custody with a court date requiring that she attend Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.

On August 2nd, this same suspect was arrested in reference to a separate incident of allegedly stealing items from an unlocked parked car in the vicinity of Seventh Avenue and Balsam North.

In this instance, TIPPENESKUM was arrested and found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana.

Based on the investigation by the responding Timmins Police officer, the suspect has been charged with:

  • One count of Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • One count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Two counts of Breach of Probation contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused has been held in custody awaiting a bail hearing on all charges that was held on August 3rd at Provincial Court in Timmins.

The Timmins Police Service views these incidents as crimes of opportunity.

All residents are advised not to store valuable items in their vehicles.

Where this is not practical, all vehicles must be locked. The simple premise of “Lock it or Lose it” applies and must be adhered to in order to reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of crime.

IMPAIRED DRIVING

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local driver stemming from an incident which occurred during the early evening hours of Thursday, August 4th, in Timmins.

While responding to a complaint of an erratic driver that had left a local grocery store, the Timmins Police located the subject vehicle a short while later in the Vimy Avenue area of Timmins and interviewed the driver.

The Timmins Police officer noted that the driver was allegedly displaying obvious signs of impairment due to the consumption of alcohol.

Based on observations made by the officer, the driver was arrested and taken into custody.

As a result, the Timmins Police Service has charged a 40 year old Timmins woman, with:

  • One count of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of Operate Motor Vehicle – over 80 Mgs of Alcohol in 100 Mls of Blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The driver was released from custody on a Promise to Appear requiring that she attend Provincial Court in Timmins on August 23rd to answer to the charges laid against her.

COLLISION AT REA-WENDE INTERSECTION

The Timmins Police Service has completed its investigation into a two vehicle collision which occurred on August 4th at approximately 7:20 a.m. at the intersection of Rea Street South and Wende Street in Timmins.

The collision involved a 2010 Chevrolet passenger vehicle and a 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck.

Both vehicles sustained damage but were able to be driven from the scene.

Neither driver sustained injury requiring medical attention, however a passenger suffered minor injuries.
The Timmins Police Service has charged a 28 year old male Timmins resident with Disobey Stop Sign – Fail to Stop contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
