It’s only been a week, but in the life of Tanner Tonkin, that week has brought unimaginable lows and some heart warming highs.

Last Friday evening, the 26-year old was involved in a motorcycle collision on a curved section of Norman Street in Timmins and suffered serious injuries.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help him and the family going forward.  He is being treated in a hospital in Sudbury.

Three days into the campaign, and the page has raised over $15,000.

“The road to recovery is going to be very long, and likely very expensive for him and his family. From travel time, to hotels, to rehab equipment, Tanner’s family can use all the help they can get,” reads the campaign story.

It adds the prognosis at this time is that Tonkin may never walk again, having a broken T5 and T6 vertebrae and severed spine.

“Those who know Tanner know he has a heart of gold and the thought of him never being able to ride his skateboard again is unfathomable. The money we raise will help ensure that every measure is taken to attempt to get him walking and riding again.”

Meantime, Timmins Police is looking for information regarding the collision.  They say a woman stopped at the scene, and offered assistance.  Police add her observations “may prove to be vital to the conclusion of the investigation into the collision.”

If you have any information on the collision, you are asked to contact police and use incident number TI16015823.
