Mark your calendars for November 26-27, Rogers Hometown Hockey is taking over Timmins.

It’s the seventh of 24 stops for Season 3 of the show highlighting hockey history across the country.  It will also feature a nationally televised event Sunday night on Sportsnet with hosts Ron MacLean and Tara Sloan.

“There has been so much hockey history that has flowed out of our area and ‘exported’ all over,” said Wayne Bozzer, Volunteer Chair of the Timmins Sports Heritage Hall of Fame in an application letter dated late February 2016. “There are College winners, Memorial Cup winners, Stanley Cup winners, Calder winners, a Masterson winner and Hall of Famers. But there are also the outdoor rinks, and road hockey and minor hockey that are synonymous with Canada!”

Back in June during a city council meeting, the notion was hinted at by Timmins Sports Heritage Hall of Fame committee head Wayne Bozzer.

Bozzer said back then he was “optimistic.”

The North is no stranger to the program. Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury hosted stops during the tour’s first year, with North Bay welcoming the production last October.

Live on location from the Sportsnet Mobile Studio, MacLean and Slone host the pre-game, intermission and post-game show on Sportsnet. Each week features visits from local celebrities, alumni, special guests while sharing compelling hometown stories with viewers across Canada.

Over the last two NHL seasons, the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour has visited 49 communities across Canada, traveling 56,000 km (more than six times the length of the Canada / US border), while welcoming 400,000 visitors to the festival.  Details for each 2016-17 tour location – including special guests, activities, and entertainment – will be announced at a later date. The cross-country extravaganza kicks off in Newmarket, Ontario Saturday, Oct. 15 and Sunday, Oct. 16. Every stop of the tour features two jam-packed days of activities and celebrations that include music, NHL alumni, local heroes, and entertainment for families to enjoy.
