The province is bringing back results from last year’s EQAO standardized testing in schools.

And in Timmins, the results have dropped off a bit.

The English catholic board (NCDSB) saw just 52% of participating students pass the literacy test, a drop from 79 per cent from a year before.  In Grade 9 math, officials say 80% of academic students meet or exceed the provincial average, while just 24% meet or exceed it in the applied level of study.

At the English public board (DSB-One), the numbers look a little better with the success rate at 67 per cent, down from 70 per cent.  In math, 61% of academic students meet or exceed the provincial average, while just 35% meet or exceed it in the applied level of study.

Overall, 81% of students across the province passed their Grade 10 literacy test.  Break it down between academic and applied, there’s a pretty telling stat.

Academic students saw a 92% success rate.  For applied, just 47% were successful.
