Another chapter is passing in the issue of who decides the replacement of current City CAO Joe Torlone.

Now, city councillors who are not part of the hiring committee will be able to sit in on interviews as spectators.

Councillor Rick Dubeau, who was once a part of the committee, says they just want to be informed as much as possible so they can make a better decision down the road.

He says a report he read from a company made recommendations that in the spirit of transparency, council should eliminate the practice that prohibits council members who aren’t part of a committee from attending meetings, whether they’re open or closed.

There was concern this would intimidate potential candidates, but not wanting to deal with the process anymore, councillors voted in favour of the request.
