A joyride in a stolen car highlights a number of charges handed out by Timmins Police the last number of days.

STOLEN VEHICLE

During the early morning hours of Saturday October 15th, a Timmins Police officer was completing general patrol of a residential area in the north end of the city.

The officer came upon a vehicle being driven in an erratic fashion.

The officer eventually had the driver come to a stop as one of the occupants fled the scene on foot.

It was determined that the vehicle, a 1997 Honda Accord was in fact stolen.

Both occupants were eventually located and taken into police custody.

As a result of the investigation, two male youths, one aged 15 and the other aged 16 were charged with:

  • One count each of Theft Over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

An additional count of Flight While Pursued by Police contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada was laid against the 16 year old youth.

Both suspects were taken into custody and later released with a court date of October 24th to answer to the charges laid against them.

SHOPLIFTING

The Timmins Police Service was called to the scene of an alleged incident of shoplifting at a west end retailer in Timmins on Friday (Oct 14) afternoon.

Upon arrival, the responding police officers began their investigation.

The suspect had been identified, located, and arrested by on-site loss prevention officers.

A total of $914.00 had been allegedly taken by the shoplifter.

Pursuant to a search incident to arrest completed by Timmins Police officers, a quantity of suspected methamphetamine was located on the suspect’s person and seized as evidence.

Jennifer LABELLE, 35, of Timmins, was arrested and charged with:

  • One count of Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • One count of Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

The suspect was taken into custody and is awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins.

ATTEMPT THEFT

The Timmins Police Service was called to the scene of an incident where a suspect was allegedly observed checking doors on parked cars in a effort to steal items within these vehicles at a local coffee shop parking lot on Algonquin Blvd on Sunday (16 Oct) afternoon.

Upon arrival, the responding Timmins Police officers began their investigation.

The suspect was identified, located, and arrested by the Timmins Police Service a short while later.

Marie TIPPENISKUM, 24, of Timmins, was arrested and charged with:

  • Two counts of Attempt Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of Fail To Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The suspect was taken into custody and is awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins.

The Timmins Police Service would remind all persons who leave their vehicle parked to use caution and lock their vehicles. Thefts from insecure vehicles are deemed to be a crimes of opportunity. Locking your vehicle reduces this opportunity for thieves to make off with your valuables.

DISTURBANCE

The Timmins Police Service was called to the scene of a disturbance at a social service assistance agency office on Second Avenue in Timmins on Friday afternoon.

Upon arrival, the responding police officers began their investigation and located the suspect a short while later.

Briana CABRAL, 23, of Timmins, was arrested and charged with:

  • One count of Cause Disturbance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of Uttering Threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • One count of Fail To Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The suspect was taken into custody and is awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins.
