Last week, plans came out into local media circles on what officials Centre Culturel La Ronde plan to do going forward.

Monday night, the plans became much more concrete.

They are looking to cut costs by demolishing their historical building on Mountjoy North that was gutted by a fire last year.  In doing that, they plan to build a smaller facility on the same property.

In essence, the current building is around 37,000 square feet while the proposed new building is around 10,000 square feet.

It’s said the entire venture will cost between $4-5 million dollars.

Officials went to city council in hopes of getting relief in the form of no tipping fees in lieu of a cash donation.

The plan is to start the construction process once the Legion finishes up with their operations in mid-November.

Council will look to approve the request to waive tipping fees at the November 7th meeting of council.

La Ronde is currently operating inside the old St. Charles School on Kent Avenue.
