The Timmins Police Service is completing its investigation into a two vehicle collision which occurred at the intersection of Hwy 101 and McIntyre Road at approximately 9:50 p.m. yesterday evening.

A 27 year female driver of a eastbound 2013 Ford pickup truck was struck from behind by an 18 year old male driver of a 1998 Subaru station wagon.

A 21 year old female passenger in the pickup truck was injured and was taken to Timmins and District Hospital by ambulance for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage that has rendered both of them un-drivable.

The matter remains under investigation by the Traffic Section of the Timmins Police Service.

The male was released from custody with no charges laid.  They add alcohol didn’t play a factor, but impaired driving charges are pending.  It’s to suggest impairment by drugs was the factor, though police wouldn’t confirm that when asked.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the Timmins Police – Traffic Section at 705-264-1201.

The scene of the collision was closed off to traffic for approximately 6 hours.

At one point, an inattentive motorist struck and drove through erected scene barricades.

That motorist has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

Two other motorist are reported to have opted to drive around the barricades.

Both these drivers were sternly directed to leave the scene so that officers could return to the task of investigating the collision.

The Timmins Police Service reminds motorists that barricades erected at collision scenes are put in place to preserve evidence, and to enhance officer safety.

Police officers at the scene are depending on the public to respect the intent of these barricades and use good judgement at all times.
