The Timmins Police Service responded to a collision involving a wheelchair bound pedestrian at approximately 11:00 a.m. today (13 Nov) at the intersection of Preston Street and Algonquin Boulevard West.

With the assistance of Timmins Fire personnel and Timmins Paramedics, first aid was provided to a 36 year old female in a wheelchair who was being assisted by a family member in crossing Algonquin Boulevard in a northerly direction at the time of the collision.

The pedestrian in the wheelchair was stuck by an 82 year old female driver of a Buick passenger vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was in the midst of exiting the Metro Grocery Store parking lot and was completing a left turn onto Algonquin Boulevard when she stuck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian in the wheelchair did sustain injury as of the result the collision and was taken to Timmins and District Hospital by ambulance for medical assessment and treatment.

As a result of the investigation, the driver of the motor vehicle was charged for Fail to Yield to Pedestrian contrary to section 144(7)of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
