The Pine North-Fifth Avenue intersection has become a busy place over the last few years.

What was once a hospital turned into a senior’s home, and now patrons at St. Mary’s Gardens are raising the issue of how difficult it is getting across the street to run errands at the 101 Mall.

So much so that officials with the home is asking council to put in a crosswalk.

Councillor Pat Bamford acknowledged that there’s no stop sign once you go south of Algonquin, which prompts drivers to speed up through said intersection.

It can create a dangerous environment.

Many around the council table agree this would be a great idea, adding this would work well in the city’s age friendly strategy.

The support was so obvious, city staff is being asked to bypass a traffic count study and figure a way to fit this request into the 2017 budget.
