The Timmins Police Service conducted R.I.D.E. spot checks throughout the city yesterday evening and into the night (22 December 2016).

A total of 580 vehicles were stopped to verify driver sobriety across the city of Timmins between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.

No drivers were required to provide breath samples into approved screening devices during the course of the spot check program, however 3 Offence Notices were issued for Highway Traffic Act violations.

Timmins Police officers report that most of the commentary received at the roadside was positive where many drivers indicated that they were happy to see Timmins Police officers out verifying sobriety including in areas where the spot checks are not always that common.

Timmins Police Service officers were assisted in this public safety endeavor with members of the local MADD chapter who distributed anti-drunk driving literature.

The public is reminded that RIDE spot checks are part of the motoring landscape during the festive season in Timmins with an “anytime…anywhere” theme attached.

There is an element of brief inconvenience for drivers but, the RIDE program continues to be effective in contributing to safer roadways in our community.
