Timmins city council is seemingly giving their approval to install a crosswalk at St. Mary’s Gardens on Pine North.

On Monday night, Director of Public Works Luc Duval gave his recommendation to go ahead with an RFP for engineering design and the total conceptual cost for everything would be around $100,000.

To pay for it, Duval says they’re planning to take the money out of the 2017 rout and seal program.

“We have an opportunity to do less (rout and seal),” he says, “I was talking to the Engineering Department, so we had $150,000 of rout and seal.  (Manager of Engineering) Pat Seguin feels that the roads that need attention, maybe $50,000 is more than adequate.”

Councillor Pat Bamford applauded Duval for his “creative” way of finding room in the budget for this request.

He says it’s much needed, considering the 101 Business Centre across the street houses many things like doctors offices and a bank.

This will come back for a vote next month.
