Average to above average looks to be the theme weather-wise as we head towards the spring.

Meteorologist from The Weather Network Tyler Hamilton says spring is going to move in slowly and rain and snow amounts will be above the norm with an active storm front moving through the Great Lakes.

“For sustained temperatures, typically Timmins does average a temperature below freezing for March,” he said, “You have to wait until April before that average daytime high averages to about seven or eight degrees Celsius.”

“You can expect sporadic snow cover right through March.”

So don’t put away those shovels as of yet.

Throughout Canada, Chief Meteorologist Chris Scott says in a release “we’re entering uncharted territory this spring, making this Spring Forecast particularly challenging.”

“The Pacific Ocean water temperature trends are incredibly unique,” he said, “The most recent El Niño in 2016 was one of the strongest on record and to have another developing El Niño occur so soon is something we haven’t seen in the past 75 years.”
