There’s going to be a different look to the United Way in the region.

The Cochrane-Timiskaming branch is closing operations as of March 31st after a lengthy review and discussions with other United Way entities.

However, it looks like another United Way will take over servicing the area as of April 1st.

Their full media release is below.

“To ensure a continued successful United Way presence in our community, our local UWCT Board of Directors and senior staff recognized the need to review the efficiency and effectiveness of our traditional business model. As a result, in the spring of 2016, we began an examination of the possible future configurations of how best to serve our Cochrane – Timiskaming region. Based on this examination, and after much discussion with United Way Canada and our neighbouring United Ways in Northern Ontario, the Board of United Way Cochrane – Timiskaming has reached the decision to close operations.

As a movement, United Way has always shown a history of leadership and willingness to pursue strategic collaboration and integration. The Board of United Way Cochrane – Timiskaming has embraced this strategy and been communicating with one of the remaining Northern Ontario United Ways; asking them to expand, allowing the United Way presence to continue in our region. We believe this newly expanded organization will provide the increased capacity and resources to greatly enhance services in our local communities.

We are thankful that our membership has supported us as we move forward with this closure, effective March 31. Our current discussions are allowing for another United Way to begin services in our area on April 1, 2017. Our assets would be transferred to the new organization, with the stipulation that local funds continue to be used to support our local charities. We anticipate a seamless transition, and will be contacting our stakeholders with more details in the coming days.”
