Timmins’ Great Canadian Kayak Challenge & Festival was once again named one of the Top 100 Festivals and Events in Ontario.

The announcement was made recently at Festivals & Events Ontario’s (FEO) annual conference and awards presentation in Sault Ste. Marie. Festivals and events of all kinds, from every corner of Ontario, were represented in the submissions – from community festivals to internationally recognized events. Included in the Top 100 are the Festivals and Events of Distinction, a select group which represent some of the most well-known and respected celebrations in the province.

“We are extremely proud to be recognized at this level,” said Manager of Tourism and Events, Guy Lamarche.

“It is truly an honour to be included in the Top 100, and we couldn’t do it without our dedicated team of staff, volunteers, supporters and participants who make The Great Canadian Kayak Challenge & Festival an amazing success year after year. To be included in this group, which includes events like the Stratford Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival is a great privilege.”

“Festivals and events create jobs and bring Ontario communities together to celebrate our heritage and diversity,” said Eleanore McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, in a release from FEO. “I am pleased to join with Festivals & Events Ontario in congratulating this year’s Top 100 recipients. There are so many celebrations taking place across the province this year and our 150th anniversary is the perfect opportunity to get out and discover them.”

The Great Canadian Kayak Challenge & Festival takes place from August 25-27. For more information visit www.thegreatcanadiankayakchallenge.com
