On January 20, 2017, members of the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the James Bay Crime Unit commenced an investigation into a historical sexual assault that occurred approximately 20 years ago.

As a result of the investigation, 69 year old Edward ESSA from Cochrane, Ontario was arrested and charged with several sex-related offences.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.
