The Timmins Police Service has completed its investigation into a residential house fire on Balsam Street North in Timmins with the arrest of a suspect.

The fire occurred during the evening hours of Sunday, February 19th and resulted in significant structural damage to the residence which is composed of a number of apartments.

The Timmins Police engaged the use of its Forensic Identification Unit as well as officers from the Criminal Investigations Division in addition to arson investigators from the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office.

As a result of the investigation, Paulina SMALL-MATTHEWS, 24, of Timmins, has been arrested and charged with:

  • One count of Arson with Disregard for Human Life contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused has been released on a Promise to Appear requiring that she attend Provincial Court in Timmins on April 18th to answer to the charges laid against her.
