The Timmins Police Service – Traffic Section has received a traffic complaint in regards to an on-going safety concern regarding motorists speeding on Sandy Falls Road.

The area of particular concern has been identified as the area east of Government Road North where a hill creates a significant blind spot for residents in this area who enter the roadway from their private driveways.

The complaint outlines how vehicles are often travelling at speeds of close to 100km/h, while the posted speed limit is 50km/h in this area.

Residents report a number of “near miss” situations.

In response, the Timmins Police will be increasing patrols in this area during those identified times where the residents have noticed the highest number of speed violations.

Strict radar enforcement will be conducted by the Timmins Police Service – Traffic Section officers as well as regular platoon officers.

For public safety reasons, drivers found to be traveling in excess of the posted speed limit should not expect or anticipate leniency of any kind at the roadside.

The Timmins Police Service would much rather educate than prosecute.

In this instance, however, the identified driving behavior places the safety of residents in this area at risk.
As such, a strict enforcement stance has been adopted to address this issue.
