There’s no word on when talks will resume between the Canadian Hearing Society and the union representing their workers.

CUPE Local 2073 has been on the picket lines for the last month, looking for a contract to replace the one that expired four years ago.

Picketer Amy Fleury says the union wants a fair deal, including a salary raise and maintain benefits.  But the union and the company are at two different ends of the spectrum.

And those who suffer the most, Fleury says, are the clients they served daily until they went on strike.

One of those clients is Wendy Rochon, who now has to travel from Sudbury regularly to take care of her father.

She says it’s costing her gas money and quality family time with her loved ones in Sudbury.

“I love my dad, don’t get me wrong,” she said, “But the service is very badly missed from my point of view.”

The two sides were at the table as recently as last Wednesday, but talks broke down over the weekend.
