OPP in Matheson is charging an Ottawa man who felt the need for speed.

OPP say 29-year old Benjamin Makela was driving a vehicle on Highway 11 south of Matheson Wednesday afternoon.  The vehicle was clocked going over 100km over the posted 90km speed limit.

Makela’s charged with Race a Motor Vehicle – Excessive Speed, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

In addition to the charge, the driver was served a 7 day driver’s license suspension along with a 7 day vehicle impoundment. The driver will attend court in Timmins on June 22, 2017 to answer to the charge.

The motoring public should be reminded if convicted, drivers could face a fine of at least $2,000.00, imprisonment and an additional license suspension.
