Ontario Provincial Police in our region have been putting the clamp on crime with multiple arrests over the last week.

OPP CHARGE MAN WITH CRIMINAL HARASSMENT IN HEARST
A Hearst man is facing a number of charges after a report of criminal harassment.

OPP say after investigating, an arrest warrant was issued. 45-year old Gregory Richmond was arrested last Thursday and charged with the following:

  • One count of Criminal Harassment
  • Two counts of Breach of Recognizance
  • Two counts of Fail to comply with Recognizance

Richmond was scheduled to appear in court in Cochrane last Friday. The result of the appearance is not known.

ALBERTA MAN CHARGED WITH DRUG TRAFFICKING
A traffic stop on Highway 11 near Val Cote last Sunday is leading to nine charges for a man from Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Hearst OPP say the man “was in possession of stolen property, had breached a recognizance of bail and was trafficking controlled substances.”

Police recovered methamphetamine and marijuana valued at an estimated $5-thousand dollars, plus drug paraphernalia.

34-year old Jonathan Monpetit faces the following charges:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Under 3kg – Cannabis Marijuana
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Resin
  • Four counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

Monpetit is scheduled to appear in a Cochrane courtroom on Friday, July 14th.

KAPUSKASING MAN CHARGED AFTER TRAFFIC STOP
Over $36-thousand dollars in drugs and cash have been recovered, and a 21-year old Kapuskasing man is facing charges.

Kapuskasing OPP initiated a traffic stop on Highway 11 near Moonbeam last Friday evening.

Upon investigation, police say the driver was in possession of controlled substances and recovered an estimated $36-thousand dollars worth of marijuana and cannabis resin. They also seized $390 in Canadian dollars and drug paraphernalia.

Guy Labrecque faces the following charges:

  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Under 3kg – Cannabis Marijuana
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cannabis Resin – Over 1 gram
  • Race Motor Vehicle – Excessive Speed

Labrecque had his driver’s license suspended and vehicle impounded for seven days. As well, the accused is to appear in a Kapuskasing courtroom on August 28th.
