There’s quite the contrast when you think about the men’s and women’s league soccer standings. There’s a tight battle for the women, while the men’s league season title seemingly wrapped up ages ago.

Meantime, the Timmins Men’s Baseball League has been high scoring. And especially so for the top team at the moment.

MEN’S SOCCER
At 9-0 and three games left to play, one would think Timmins United have already clinched the regular season title.

They’re close, but still four points shy of that feat after Tuesday’s 3-0 win over the Rebels. The Kapuskasing Longhorns can still catch TUFC, but need a lot of help and a lot of wins—which isn’t impossible for a team that’s consistently been atop or near the top of the table over the last number of years.

However, Kap did take a big blow to their efforts Sunday evening, drawing Blizzard 1-1 in the only other TMLS game scheduled for this week.

TUFC goes to 27 points, while Kap and Blizzard each moved to 10 points and a tie for second place.

The Rebels and Let’s Try Soccer Again are below them at nine points each, Hearst has six points and Gunners FC remain winless and without points.

Play resumes Tuesday with a pair of tilts on the upper field of the Timmins Regional Athletics and Soccer Complex.

Blizzard faces Gunners FC at 7:30pm and LTSA and the Rebels look to break their deadlock in the standings at 9:00pm.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
The Dunrite Rubber Wolfpack dropped their first game of the season this week, and have also dropped to third spot in the TWLS standings.

Rehab Plus and the Restore Physiotherapy Pandas each occupy first place at 27 points while the Wolfpack have 25.

We’ll start with the Pandas, who nabbed a 2-1 win Thursday over Investors Group.

Rehab Plus, meanwhile, were much busier. They began the week Monday with a 2-1 win over the Wolfpack, and followed it up with two more victories—both shutouts over the Porcupine Kinsmen (2-0 Tuesday; 4-0 Thursday).

Despite the two shutouts, the Kinsmen racked up a 1-1 draw vs the Timmins Terminators to stake claim to fourth spot on the table with 12 points.

The Terminators—who also drew 2-2 Monday against Tisdale Plumbing and Heating/Eclipse Financial—are behind them in fifth with 10 points.

TPAH/EF occupy the bottom of the seven-team table at two points, after losing to sixth place Investors Group 2-1 Wednesday. (Investors Group has five points.)

Play resumes Monday at Timmins High at 6:00pm with Investor’s Group and Rehab Plus, followed by the Terminators and Pandas at 7:30pm.

MEN’S BASEBALL
The ServiceMaster Orioles went three-for-three this week in dominant fashion, outscoring the competition 53-16.

The first place Orioles (6-1) started the week Tuesday with a 13-3 win over the Pirates in five innings. And then a 15-4 five inning victory over the Red Sox followed Thursday. That was topped off by a 25-9 romping of those same Red Sox on Sunday.

The other TMBL game this week saw the Whiskey Jacks nab a 9-3 decision over the Brewers on Wednesday.

The Moneta Pub & Grub Brewers sit second at 5-3 (1.5 games behind), with the Timmins Whiskey Jacks not far behind in third spot at 3-2 (two games behind).

The Lessard-Stephens Red Sox (2-5) are four games back of top spot, and at 1-6, the Boston Pizza Pirates are five games behind.

Monday’s contest at the Theriault ball field will see the Whiskey Jacks tangle with the Pirates at 6:15pm.
