It’s the final week of regular season action in both men’s and women’s soccer. And in men’s baseball, the Timmins Whiskey Jacks nabbed two big wins without even having to take the field.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
The Dunrite Rubber Wolfpack (11-2-2; 35PTS) continue to lead the Timmins Women’s League Soccer pack going into August. But first place isn’t fully wrapped up as of yet.

Second place Rehab Plus (9-3-4; 31PTS) sit four points behind after the top two went unbeaten over the last week.

The Wolfpack started with a 1-1 draw to the third place Restore Physiotherapy Pandas (8-3-5; 29PTS) Monday.

Following that were two clean sheets, a pair of 1-0 wins over Tisdale Plumbing and Heating/Eclipse Financial (Thursday) and Investors Group (Sunday).

Rehab had just the one game this week, a 3-0 win Thursday over Investors Group.

The Pandas had a rough week overall. They lost their other game of the week Wednesday, a 2-1 setback to the Timmins Terminators (8-3-5; 29PTS).

The Pandas and Terminators into a tie for third, after the Terminators had a strong seven days.

They shutout TPAH/EF twice (1-0 on Monday; 5-0 on Sunday) and grabbed a forfeit win over Investors Group Tuesday.

Porcupine Kinsmen (5-9-4; 19PTS) occupy fifth spot following a 2-0 win over Investors Group Wednesday.

IG (2-12-2; 8PTS) holds onto sixth place and TPAH/EF (1-12-2; 5PTS) sit in the basement of the seven team league.

The Pandas and TPAH/EF lock up in the lone Monday contest at 6:00pm from Timmins High.

MEN’S SOCCER
Big news from Timmins Men’s League Soccer, as Hearst has reportedly dropped from the league, citing travel costs.

Meantime, Timmins United (11-0; 33PTS) have already locked up top spot in the now six-team loop.

They nabbed a 4-2 win over third place Blizzard (6-3-2; 20PTS) on Tuesday.

TUFC also had a game scheduled in Kapuskasing (7-1-1; 22PTS) against the second place Longhorns Sunday. The result was not available.

The Longhorns also had a home contest scheduled Friday against the fourth place Rebels (5-4-1; 16PTS). Again, the result is not immediately available.

The other game on the schedule saw the Rebels and Blizzard battle to a 1-1 draw Sunday.

Let’s Try Soccer Again (5-6-0; 15PTS) is in fifth place and Gunners FC (2-10; 6PTS) finishes the year in bottom spot.

(Each team plays each other twice in the regular season, and has at least two wins due to Hearst’s forfeiture.)

Only one game remains in TMLS regular season play. It’s LTSA and the Rebels on Tuesday night at 7:30 from the Timmins Regional Athletics and Soccer Complex.

MEN’S BASEBALL
The Whiskey Jacks (8-2) are a half game up on the ServiceMaster Orioles (8-3) in the five-team Timmins Men’s Baseball League.

The Jacks nabbed a pair of forfeit victories Sunday over the Orioles and the Boston Pizza Pirates (1-11).

The Orioles kept pace with a pair of wins earlier in the week.

They got a 16-8 win Monday night over the Moneta Pub and Grub Brewers (7-4) and a six-inning triumph over the Pirates Thursday 20-5.

The Pirates fell 13-4 to the Lessard-Stephens Red Sox (3-7) Tuesday in the other game this week.

The Orioles and Red Sox kick off this week’s action tonight at 6:15pm from the Theriault baseball diamond.
