A new era is beginning at District School Board Ontario North East.

On Monday, Lesleigh Dye began her first official day as the new Director of Education, taking over for the soon-to-be-retired Linda Knight.

Dye comes over from the Sudbury-based Rainbow District School Board, serving as their Superintendent of Education since 2006. She says there’s a lot of similarities, though the difference would be the amount of students enrolled.

Coming in, she says she is going to work with administrative council to identify needs within the board. Dye adds she steps in at an exciting time.

“We’re actually in a position now to be creating a new strategic plan,” she said, “We want to work with our community, our schools, our students. Figure out from them, as well as what we believe are our greatest needs in terms of next steps.”

She says regardless of what comes out in the strategic plan, students graduating is something they need to continue paying attention to.
