Renovations have been taking place at the Tisdale Shop over the last couple years, but a decision made during the initial approval came back to Timmins city council Tuesday night.

A $570-thousand dollar approval Tuesday will allow officials to do site work and lighting, put in a new entrance, fuel station, parking lot and more.

But how did we get here?

Manager of Engineering Pat Seguin details that when this project first came up for approval, it was decided it was too much for the city to spend at the time.

So they went back, cut some items out that weren’t needed to get the building up at that time. Mayor Steve Black says they broke the project up into multiple phases and brought it back to council for approval.

“We had to get the buildings up,” added Seguin, “The things that are left are things that can be done very quickly.”

“I suspect within a month, a month and a half, we will complete all these items.”

City council approved a $2.8 million dollar budget initially. Not including the items, the city has spent $2.75 million dollars and is now in need of an increase to the budgetary envelope.

The new budget now stands at $3.37 million dollars + HST.

The Tisdale Shop was in dire need of repairs, constructed in the 1930’s.
