The next stage of the Hollinger Park remediation project could have a major impact on the 2018 Stars and Thunder Festival.

The city is looking to approve Phase 2 of the project to Interpaving Limited.

There are a few options the city is considering. The biggest one is that the city will hold off on hydroseeding this fall and will re-evaluate the option in the spring.

“If hydroseed or sod is installed at this time, there is a risk of it not being established in time for the upcoming Stars and Thunder festival and a high risk of being unsuccessful, which may result in having the park be redone,” the report states.

As a result, the city is wanting to get additional granular material to cover the clay. This, they say will minimize the area from becoming extremely muddy during the festival.

The new phase is expected to cost $154,912.50 + HST.
